This year, I have plenty to be thankful for. I am thankful for Dr. Vail and his team at UCSF. I am thankful for Stacie, my kids, and the rest of my family for more reasons than I can put in this post. My friends make me laugh and keep me humble. I am thankful for all of them. But, I want to use this space just to say thanks to you. I have enjoyed writing about my surgery and recovery, and I appreciate that you have taken the time to read The Hipping Post. Some of you have been so kind as to leave a note of encouragement. Thank you.
My recovery has gone better than I expected. This morning, I walked around the Upper West Side after standing in the cold for six hours, so that my family had the perfect spot for watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. My hip didn’t bother me once. The downside of my recovery is that I now have fewer hip-related updates for this blog. But The Hipping Post has become an unexpected creative outlet for me, so I am going to continue writing. I have no idea what I am going to write about, but I will likely keep my posts to those topics most important to me: health, family, and friends.
E.B. White, the author of Charlotte’s Web, and a brilliant essayist, wrote, “I think some people find the essay the last resort of the egoist, a much too self-conscious and self-serving form for their taste; they feel that it is presumptuous of a writer to assume that his little excursions or his small observations will interest the reader. There is some justice in their complaint.”
I don’t consider my posts “essays”, and I am certainly no E.B. White. My posts may be self-absorbed, but if you have enjoyed reading The Hipping Post, I hope you will continue to visit. If not, thank you for stopping by.
